Silly Men...lesbians are for ladies...

So we all know that lesbians have often become a sort of fetish for straight men. Check out this commercial from Corona:

One hot chick=one football and a wave hello. Two hot chicks who will probably make out and let us watch=10 footballs and a crowd of men. I don't think I really have to say why this reasoning is flawed or misogynist, but I do just want to put one simple message out there: Generally, LESBIANS TEND TO LIKE THE LADIES. Their sexuality is their own and not a real life porn for your enjoyment.

In addition to this invalidating way of looking at lesbian women, there is also a total double standard for gay men. Beer=Manly! This means to even insinuate that men in a beer commercial are gay is a risky move. Well clearly Corona must be an amazingly brave group of pioneers. (sarcasm)

You can tell that the silent women on the side of each of the men are there just in case any controversy came up over their orientation. Oh I get it. You want to tap into the gay market without making "real" men uncomfortable.

What are your thoughts? Leave some comments please&thankyou.

  1. This one kind of bugged me too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFu68oMmvtg

Since it's basically about how men are children women are powerless against it. All women can do is say "No! Bad man!" when they catch them in the act like a dog chewing on a shoe. Kind of reinforces the "just don't get caught" mentality that we've already got embedded in us. So it ends with a gesture of "Hey, I saw that!" instead of how it's disrespectful to the woman in the chair and undermines her function as a person in a relationship instead of just a body.

And of course that's aside from the usual body image BS.

With the first one I actually thought it was intentionally making the men look stupid. I think worse than any positive or negative commentary on men's fixation on multiple women at the same time in the context of the commercial itself is the fact that they are using it to sell something.

Good point about the second one. They'd rather pay two women to be props than even allow someone to question it.

Not that this makes it okay by any stretch of the imagination, but by beer commercial standards those are all pretty tame. Budweiser, Miller, and Coors have a pretty long history of even more blatant exploitations. I could be wrong but I seem to remember identical twins making out in a beer commercial once... That's a fixation men have that I'll really never understand. And God forbid a beer commercial should ever feature a person who doesn't meet typical TV standards of attractiveness.

    Blah. I need a beer.
